Alcohol detoxification for out of control drinking


This article is about people with alcohol problems who will go through alcohol detoxification in order to get their drinking under control. I hate the word alcoholic, it’s just a completely demeaning word that is unnecessary. I know that anyone who is going to go through alcohol detoxification in order to control their drinking will not like the phrase “a person who has lost control of their drinking” when it refers to them. Most of us are in control of our drinking, even alcoholics; it’s just that when an alcoholic starts to drink he tends to drink too much and this is where he loses the control. Normal drinkers will actually drink more than they can take at times, but most the time they won’t.

So there are some questions that you need to ask yourself before you go on alcohol detoxification. Remember in all of these questions you must answer correctly. If you don’t you are kidding nobody but yourself, and your alcohol detoxification will not work. If you really want to help yourself in the situation you have to start being honest with yourself first. At the beginning you need to ask yourself what is the situation in which you will start drinking? Then you need to know a bit more about your feelings before, during and after your drinking session. For instance before you go out drinking are you getting any hangups about going out? What are your intentions before you go out drinking? Are your intentions to go out and have a few drinks with your pals they come home after a few drinks or go for some food etc.? Or are you intentions just to go out to get drunk? And are your intentions to go out and drink until you get very drunk? When you are sitting in the bar what do you think about yourself? Do you look at yourself as you are drinking more alcohol and see yourself in a good light or a bad light? Or do you not look at yourself at all? Is the whole reason that you are there to forget about yourself? Do you feel a lot more comfortable in your drinking? How are your emotions when you are drinking? Are you aggressive? Are you loud or quiet? These are all things that you need to know to see if you need to go on alcohol detoxification.

Then you need to start asking yourself how much you are consuming. How many units of alcohol are you downing in one session? Again you have to be very truthful here because it’s only yourself that is going to be hurt by your lies. There many things you can do to curb your drinking habits, to cut down on what your drinking without actually going into alcohol detox. You need to start looking at yourself and how much you are drinking, try to change your actions in all of these cases. Maybe it will be best for you to go on an alcohol detoxification for a while.
